Twitch Emote Requirements (2026)
- 📐Master Size: 112 × 112 pixels (One size fits all!)
- 📄Format: PNG with Transparency (Required)
- 💾File Size: Under 1MB
- ⚡Auto-Resize: Twitch automatically creates 56px and 28px versions
Create Twitch Emotes the Easy Way
Twitch emotes are the currency of community on your channel. In the past, you had to manually upload three different sizes (112px, 56px, and 28px). Good news: Twitch now allows you to upload a single 112 × 112 pixel image, and they handle the rest. Our tool prepares your image perfectly for this "Auto-Resize" mode.
The "One Size" Rule (112x112)
While you can still upload manual sizes, the best workflow in 2026 is:
- Design your emote at a high resolution (e.g., 500x500 or higher).
- Use this tool to resize it to exactly 112 × 112 pixels.
- Upload this single file to Twitch.
- Select "Auto-resize" during upload.
⚠️ Critical: Transparent Backgrounds
Twitch emotes MUST have a transparent background. If you upload a square JPG with white corners, your chat will roast you. Our tool preserves your PNG transparency. If you're creating an emote from a photo, remove the background before using this resizer.
Emote vs. Sub Badges
Don't confuse Emotes with Subscriber Badges. They have different specs:
- Emotes: 112x112px. Used in chat by typing code (e.g., :PogChamp:). Available to followers or subscribers.
- Sub Badges: 72x72px, 36x36px, 18x18px. Appears next to username. Strictly for subscribers.
Design Rules for Approval
Twitch manually reviews emotes. Avoiding these common rejection reasons:
- No Text: Avoid single letter emotes (unless it's part of brand).
- No Copyright: Don't use other streamers' faces or logos without permission.
- No Nudity/Hate: Zero tolerance policy.
- Readability: Test how it looks at tiny 28x28 size (chat size). If it's a blurry blob, simplify the design.
How to Upload Emotes
- Go to Creator Dashboard on Twitch.
- Click Viewer Rewards > Emotes.
- Click the + button in your Tier 1 slot.
- Upload your 112x112 image.
- Name your emote (e.g., MyCodeLove).
- Wait for approval (usually 24-48 hours).
Making Animated Emotes
Affiliates and Partners can upload animated GIFs!
- Format: GIF (Square)
- Size: 112x112px
- File Size: Under 1MB
- Frames: Under 60 frames total
- Note: Animations must be smooth. Flashing/strobing images are rejected for safety.
Top Emote Ideas for New Streamers
- Hype/Love: Your face excited or holding a heart.
- RIP/Fail: For when you die in-game.
- Lurk: For sub-only mode or lurkers.
- Welcome/Hi: A waving hand or greeting.
- Pet Emotes: Your cat/dog is always a win.
💡 Testing Your Design
Before uploading, zoom your browser out or shrink the image on your screen to thumbnail size (about 28 pixels). If you can't tell what it is, redraw it with thicker lines and bolder colors.
