SoundCloud Header Requirements (2026)
- 📐Size: 2480 × 520 pixels (High-Resolution Standard)
- 📄Format: JPG or PNG
- 💾File Size: Under 2MB
- 🚧Blind Spot: Top-left is covered by Avatar (Keep essential art on the right)
Optimize Your SoundCloud Artist Profile
SoundCloud is the world's largest open audio platform. To be taken seriously as an artist or podcaster, your profile needs to look pro. Our SoundCloud Header Resizer scales your image to the recommended 2480 × 520 pixels for crisp display on all screens.
The "Blind Spot" Warning
SoundCloud's layout is unique. Your circular Profile Picture (Avatar) floats on the left side of your header.
⚠️ Design Tip:
Avoid putting any text, logos, or faces on the left 20% of your header image. It will likely be covered by your profile picture. Focus your main content (artist name, album release date) on the center or right side.
Why 2480 x 520 pixels?
Strictly speaking, the minimum width is lower, but 2480px width ensures your banner looks sharp on Retina MacBooks and 4K monitors. The 520px height maintains the correct wide aspect ratio used by the platform.
How to Change Your Header Image
On Desktop Web:
- Log in to your SoundCloud account.
- Go to your profile page.
- Hover over the header area and click Update Image.
- Select your resized 2480x520 image.
- Adjust the zoom/crop if needed (it should fit perfectly).
- Click Save.
Note: You cannot change header images from the mobile app currently. Use a desktop browser (or "Request Desktop Website" on mobile).
Best Practices for Musicians
- New Release: Change your header to promote your latest single/album artwork.
- Tour Dates: List your upcoming cities on the right side.
- Socials: Add "Follow on IG: @MyBand" text.
- Vibe Check: Use atmospheric photos of you performing or in the studio.
Common SoundCloud Header Mistakes
- Pixelation: Using a small image (like 800px wide) will look blurry on desktop.
- Text Cutoff: Putting text too close to the top or bottom edges.
- Clashing Colors: Ensure your header colors complement your profile picture.
Format Matters: JPG vs PNG
- Use JPG: For photos (band photos, complex multicolored art). Smaller file size.
- Use PNG: For text-heavy graphics or simple logos. Better sharpness, but watch out for the 2MB limit!
Troubleshooting Uploads
Error: "Something went wrong"
- Cause: Usually the file is too big (over 2MB).
- Solution: Convert PNG to JPG or use an image compressor.
Error: "Image is too small"
- Cause: Your image is smaller than the minimum requirement.
- Solution: You can typically upscale it a bit, but it's better to find a higher-quality source file.
